About the Naim Label
Naim Audio, the Salisbury-based creators of some of the world’s greatest sounding home entertainment systems, has channelled their uncompromising obsession for outstanding music through their record company for over fifteen years. This desire to champion the artistic, and not just the technical, is what makes Naim Label - now one of the biggest audiophile labels in the world - so special.
Belonging to such a prestigious British company means that Naim's inherent philosophy is shared with the label: one of achieving absolute sound quality and preserving the musicians' art. A lasting desire to share music compliments the highly respected artist-friendly approach of the Naim Label.
Naim Label aims to introduce a sense of humanity that was long-since lost in the global music industry.
In 1991, Naim Audio launched the CDS, Naim's first ever-Compact Disc player. Having bravely ventured into the realm of digital music playback, Naim was aware of the stark reality that the sound of commercially available Compact Discs was sub-standard. Naim Audio were hungry for some material that could provide a superior listening experience, but also help demonstrate just how ground-breaking the Naim CDS was, and so Naim Label was born.
Almost two decades later, Naim Label and its various label imprints has a catalogue of over one hundred releases, championing everything from gripping alternative rock to Beethoven symphonies. Naim Label music is sold in 38 countries worldwide.
Along with acclaimed recording engineer Ken Christianson, Naim Label has pioneered the True Stereo analogue recording technique, an honest and naturally vibrant method that allows recordings to sing. In addition to this, Naim Label is accustomed to using the world's most celebrated studios, including Capitol Studios in LA, Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios and Abbey Road in London to satisfy the passion for achieving the best possible results from a diverse range of recording methods.
The True Stereo recording process
True Stereo is one of the most faithful techniques in existence to capture music in a recorded format. The final sound results from just one single pair of microphones having been used set up in a space with good natural acoustics.
The end result offers the listener a live, acoustically realistic perspective of the music without processing or electronic manipulation of any kind. Due to the fact that the sound has been recorded direct to stereo, there is no opportunity for mixing or manipulating the sound post–recording.
All True Stereo recordings are made using AKG 414EB microphones in an ORTF stereo array directly to a Nagra 1V-S analog reel to reel or Nagra hi-res digital recorder.
The positioning of the microphones is critical for this kind of recording; this is the only opportunity that The Naim Label’s engineer, Ken Christianson, has to adjust the levels. More bass, for instance, is achieved by positioning the bassist closer to the microphones, and vice versa.
