Out Of Darkness
MONO AND STEREO HIGH-END AUDIO MAGAZINE NEW
When I see the package with 2L logo on the stamp my musical lights go on as I know, that Morten Lindberg captured again something unique and worthy of getting deeper into.
"Torbjørn Dyrud's work OUT OF DARKNESS presents you with the most famous story of Christian culture - Christ's passion, death and resurrection - in a form you have never heard before. Allow yourself to be moved by Nidaros Cathedral Choir, Sarah Head and the musicians in their presentation of Dyrud's dramatic music. The work is not a passion in the traditional sense, since it does not end with Christ's death. Out of Darkness continues through the kingdom of death and out of the grave, leaving us with the gospel of love that overcomes and endures everything, a gospel of grace and forgiveness. Life is the light of mankind, and we can rise out of the darkness."
This time it's Torbjørn Dyrud OUT OF DARKNESS. Nidaros Cathedral Choir joined with Vivianne Sydnes as conductor, Geir Morten Øien and Erlend Aagaard Nilsen on trumpets, Lars Sitter on percussion and Sarah Head performing the readings.
ATMOSPHERE, SOUND & MUSIC
The majestic almost angelic atmosphere of recording is both spiritual and intimate. The story itself is one of the most potent and from historical point of view elaborated through all of medias over the past two thousand years. When music and reading correlate the joint output have to be seamless and Sarah Hear insightful readings managed to keep the delicate going and flow. She managed to keep the pace of story with a dramatic impact of calmness.
This is pure drama revisited and it recreates the happenings of Jesus with almost a visual appearance due this album performance.
Having sang in the choir and larger vocal ensemble myself, Out Of Darkness reminded me on the one of the kind experiences that churches and sacred musical material can ignite. We often talk abut the musical experience of a listener, but be aware and assured that with the right surroundings and musical material it's can be the same special journey not only for the listeners, but also for the performers. When things click, you forget about the notes and only let the energy of happening relate to you. It's a triumph of story happening rather then just observing it.
Torbjørn Dyrud OUT OF DARKNESS feels like an cinematic excellence morphed to the best aural voyage. As the moods changes across the album the emotions seems to burst out loud and to the grand effect. It's a drama coming to life.
Sound-wise traveling from pianissimo to forte fortissimo due listening and enjoying every bit of listening is always no brannier with the quality of 2L recordings. Morten found his "grip" on how to capture the musical aura of composition and enrich it with a certain dedicated space where recordings take a part. This is an art and by each recording things seems to be getting more subtle with 2L output.
