Hyperion's Record of the Month for February 2014 comes from the vocal and instrumental virtuosi who compriseArcangelo: emotionally charged Monteverdi Madrigals of Love and Loss are directed by Jonathan Cohen, with guest soloist James Gilchrist. Isolation and yearning also permeate Schubert Der Wanderer, a bewitching programme of nineteen songs from Florian Boesch and Roger Vignoles, masters both of the genre.

Martyn Brabbins and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales have recorded the two complete Zemlinsky Symphonies: audacious works from a headstrong youth wrestling the gulf between Brahms and the next generation, perhaps; thrilling to hear, most certainly. Dating from the succeeding couple of decades, the Szymanowski Masques, Métopes & Étudesare here recorded by acclaimed pianist Cédric Tiberghien, and the Kodály String Quartets receive driven performances from the Dante Quartet.

Re-issued this month are The Gaudier Ensemble's Dvořák Piano Quintet & String Quintet and an opulent album ofHowells Choral Music from Wells Cathedral Choir. 1equalmusic invites us into the wonderful world of Adrian Jack's Works for 2 pianos in thumping performances by Thorson & Thurber, some recorded live, and one with percussion.
