Around the time of the introduction of offset printing in the mid-1950s, the Deutsche Grammophon label changed color slightly. The four colors available obviously included a yellow, which was by far the most beautuful color of the four. So the yellow became the standard offset yellow. (For the technically minded, it is 100% yellow.) This was yet before the introduction of the famous cartouche.
