“Here I am at what once was Radio Ceylon and today known as Sri Lankan Broadcting Corporation. It was this wonderful organization that filled my life with wonderful music. Aside from listening to my dear mother Lily playing Karnatic violin, Radio Ceylon did bring into my world, Jim Reeves, Elvis Presly, Everly Brother’s, Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Connie Francis, Skeeter Davis etc… I am thrilled and honoured to be at this great radio station, the third oldest in the world, after the BBC and Voice of America! Today, I was told that when Sir Edmond Hillery reached the peak of Everest, it was Radio Ceylon that he picked up first!
