Audio Research writes. “The Reference 600 was introduced 30 years ago, the realization of a dream. This one was built in 1995 and arrived with its mate for a tune-up including new tubes, new tube sockets and a few other things.

A fully balanced design from input to output, the REF600 amp set a new benchmark in vacuum tube amplification, sounding glorious driving the largest and smallest speaker systems alike.

There are 36 tubes in each mono amp. Idling on the bench, this one is drawing 965 watts, the heat dispersed by four fans on the bottom. The feet used came up recently on social media, and you can see that there are ten under the 600 because it weights 170 lbs! Those are EAR Isodamp feet, spec’d by the load they are supporting. Handles on the front and rear panels are required to muscle this amp onto its stand.”
