Everything about the BMLine 35 from Backes & Müller is new—except the name. Technologically, it builds on the very first BM35, which marked the repositioning of the German manufacturer nearly 20 years ago. Until now, furnishing a large, modern living room with high-quality sound typically required choosing one of the larger models in the BMLine series. With the BMLine 35, the patented cylindrical wave radiator that skillfully minimizes room acoustics in large spaces is introduced for the first time in a living-room-friendly superloudspeaker measuring just 20 centimeters in width.

Slim format, ultimate sound
With its distinctly slim design and a baffle width of only 20 centimeters, the BMLine 35 integrates effortlessly into any living environment, including large and acoustically untreated rooms. Thanks to the unique, patented cylindrical wave radiator and the midrange line array, the BMLine 35 achieves vertical sound focusing on the listening area while maintaining an exceptionally wide listening zone. Proprietary B&M technologies such as sensor control, combined with built-in room calibration, ensure perfect sound quality even when placed near walls or in corners.

A specially designed steel frame base creates the visual impression of a floating sculpture that does not dominate the room despite its height of 1.7 meters. A premium lacquer finish, accentuated driver surrounds, and the seemingly floating mounting of the baffle and side panels further enhance the sense of lightness. Custom Edition models allow for free combinations of lacquer colors, driver surround finishes, and grooves.
Integrated high-end chain without an equipment tower
As with all active loudspeakers from B&M, amplifiers, digital crossover electronics, and D/A converters are fully integrated into the speakers. This eliminates the need for bulky external hi-fi components. A digital preamplifier such as the B&M ICE, or a streaming preamplifier with adjustable outputs, is sufficient to complete a reference-grade high-end system. The BMLine 35 offers both digital and analog inputs.

When paired with B&M digital preamplifiers, the BM EasyLink technology can be used. This enables lossless transmission of unaltered digital music signals and volume control via a slim digital cable.
The quintessence of 53 years of active technology
The BMLine 35 fulfills its claim of ultimate sound in every room both qualitatively and quantitatively. Inside the tall yet elegantly slim sculpture are four 30-centimeter bass drivers, each equipped with B&M’s patented sensor control.
The front is dominated by an array of ten midrange drivers derived from the flagship BMLine 60, delivering consistent and far-reaching vertical sound dispersion across their entire operating range while maintaining a large sweet spot. Reflections from the floor, ceiling, and the area behind the speakers are effectively suppressed.
At the heart of the BMLine 35 is the Fraunhofer-developed cylindrical wave radiator with a one-inch tweeter, reproducing frequencies from 1,000 Hz upward with exceptional transparency, dynamics, and fine resolution. A total system output of 3,000 watts powers a single BMLine 35. Frequency division occurs ahead of the power amplifiers via a patented FIRTech processor, which handles all digital signal processing with absolute phase accuracy and precise timing, even when using the integrated room adaptation. The bass drivers are mounted in sealed side enclosures and are perfectly matched to the input signal through sensor control, ensuring optimal impulse response and dry, controlled bass.

About Backes & Müller
Founded in 1973 with the ambition of technological leadership in loudspeaker design, Backes & Müller quickly established itself as a pioneer of high-end active loudspeakers. Sensor-controlled drivers and the optimal integration of built-in amplifiers made many B&M models high-end legends in the 1980s.
Since 2000, Managing Director and Chief Developer Johannes Siegler has continued to advance these technologies, creating loudspeakers designed for optimal synergy with room acoustics and uncompromising adaptability. The line-source speakers of the BMLine series were developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute. FIRTech digital crossover technology with perfect time alignment, combined with sensor-controlled bass drivers using DMC control, brings music reproduction closer to the original than conventional loudspeaker designs ever could. These key technologies were first implemented in a living-room-friendly slim loudspeaker to mark the company’s 50th anniversary.
