When loaded they can create an indentation in the raceway that they roll in. This indentation adversely affects performance by impeding the ability for the bearing to roll in response to vibrations. It is therefore important for the raceway to be hard, which is why the bearings in our Carbide Base footer roll on inserts made of hardened high carbon steel. These inserts are 5 times the hardness of the annealed stainless steel parts they sit in.”
