Siniša Kraljić, the creative force behind Colibri 33 Labs’, continues his dedicated work with the new Nucleus floorstander, which is as distinctive and unique in sound as it is in concept. As one of the most recognized Shiatsu masters in Croatia and beyond, his unique understanding of energy transfer and blockage allows him to perceive, feel, and experience music and its energetic momentum in a completely different way, pushing the boundaries in handling energy. Kraljić entered the world of high-end audio in 1994 and, in 1997, created the first series of Guru audio cables, followed by his initial two-way speakers in 2005. In parallel, he gradually developed and perfected two of his passions and ventures – as a therapist and a constructor; two worlds that both seek and require balance.

At nearly 100 kilograms, the Colibri 33 Labs three-way bestows a quiet authority and unapologetic mass, as the designer himself acts groundedly, claiming its space. Nucleus is a brand-new, pyramid-shaped, floor-standing loudspeaker featuring top component from Duelund, Rike Audio, and proprietary Colibri Matrix Micro silver coils.

Specified at 28 Hz to 22,000 Hz (±3 dB), with 91 dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance, the speaker achieves a tuneful balance, extending evenly at both frequency ends while remaining amplifier-friendly load – free of unnecessary drama or partnering issues.
The thoughtfully designed driver array, with felt dampening material covering the entire front plate, features dome tweeters firing both forward and rearward to extend the ambient field, along with custom-built Davis Acoustics midrange drivers with distinctive foam suspensions and Kevlar membranes that balance articulation and tonal density. A 12-inch paper-cone woofer with a foam surround delivers a focused, solid, and unforced foundation in the lower region.
At the intersection of engineering and expression, the concept behind Nucleus centers on musical interactivity, while still offering spectacle or sonic fireworks when called upon. But at its essence, it is about substance – both physical and philosophical – with a sculptural presence that invites listening to become participation, encouraging the listener to inhabit the momentum rather than observe it from a distance.
THE REFERENCE
M U S I C
The proprietary drivers, custom capacitors, and handmade Colibri 33 Labs cables used for internal wiring create a unique floor-standing speaker that impresses from the very first notes. Here are several references that highlight the virtues of these Croatian high-end boutique audio speakers.
Whites Off Earth Now!!, the 1986 debut album by Cowboy Junkies, is known for its raw, unrestrained blues covers and remains a reminder of what can be achieved in a bold, minimalistic way.

This live single-microphone recording remains a reference-level example for many reasons. Not only is it unique in the acoustics it captures, but also for its rawness, straightforwardness, and direct, physical and emotional collision. When everything in the system is right, it delivers all its intensity directly to the listener.
Colibri 33 Labs loudspeakers embrace the very essence of this album, and with Robert Johnson’s immortal track “Crossroads,” they demonstrate what an energetic and emotional vessel they can be. The emotional, dynamic, mighty proximity of Cowboy Junkies is rarely conveyed well, and many loudspeakers fail to capture or express it.
Nucleus speakers’ presentation opened the gate to the eerie realms of the song, delivering a one-of-a-kind vigorous impact that lingers long after the music stops.
There is no greater attribute or compliment for a speaker thanits ability to reach the listener directly and instantly, bypassing logical defenses and striking the inner core, leaving a lasting impression.
Colibri 33 Labs floorstanders disappear from the equation, allowing the “Crossroads” to come forward and convey its powerful, poignant message. This standout quality alone is a remarkable highlight that many speakers, regardless of price, fail to deliver properly, if at all.

The out-of-the-box interaction with the music revealed further positive attributes, which were clearly confirmed and cemented with the iconic ECM records, including one of my all-time favorites, the Double Image Dawn album. This remarkable recording offers a unique interplay between two standout performers, creating a sonic space filled with radiant harmonies, overtones, and enticing musicality. The Colibri 33 Labs Nucleus’s ability to instantly portray harmonic richness and density, and to create a remarkable sense of presence, immediately stimulates the right sensual receptors, resulting in an experience that goes far beyond mere objective reproduction.

This is where Kraljić’s comprehensive understanding and laser-sharp intuition are demonstrated, embodied in the Nucleus. By all means, this is not an easy recording to replay on any system, especially with the higher level of density that requires the speaker to be in tune with many design choices, from crossover selection to driver choice, and especially in the way the speaker enclosure is designed and constructed.
For the speaker to completely disappear and leave only the presence of the music is where the fusion of the art of tuning and technical acquaintance comes into play – how energy should be contained, released, or properly oriented and distributed within and outside the speakers, in pursuit of reproducing a palpable, believable illusion of the real event.
The Colibri 33 Labs Nucleus speakers deliver both aural and musical recurrence in a profoundly elevated manner, departing from conventional norms and establishing their own standard of realism and believability.

Moonlight Serenade joins the two previously mentioned reference-level albums. What sets this one apart is its frankness and realism, pure sweetness, and the sublime interaction between two legendary musicians.
The acoustic guitar and double bass were recorded in a remarkably distinct manner, and Ray Brown’s double bass, especially on the opening track “Mondscheinsonate Round About Midnight,” reaches such depths that it challenges every component in the system to let this thunderous energy fill the room, regardless of its size. The sweetness, quietness, and quintessential guitar pairing create a lyrical, authentic depth that both counteracts and interacts with an intriguing contrast of feather-light delicacy and sheer raw energy.

The Colibri 33 Labs demonstrated an impressive dynamic range that surprised me, especially considering the size of the Nucleus Loudspeakers. While they are not small, they are also not as large as some full-size models, yet they capture the essence and dynamic integrity of the larger ones.
In addition to handling dynamic constraints, it was inspiring to observe the subtle nuances and the vast micro-macro cosmos of this recording, creating a lively, emotional act that reveals the essence of the music and cuts through the fabric of the music with a soulful, heartfelt, highly interactive bond, again proveing that these speakers are not a lucky accident, but the result of a vision from someone who truly appreciates, loves, and understands the inner workings of music and the way musical energy operates.

The Colibri 33 Labs Nucleus loudspeakers are to my knowledge, the first speakers made entirely from methacrylate material. This material is extremely difficult to work with due to its density and requires a special manufacturing process, but its non-porous nature offers excellent acoustic inertness, rigidity, and damping, minimizing cabinet resonance. These qualities help prevent unwanted structural vibrations that color the sound, allowing the driver output to remain accurate at all times. It also provides high-end visual aesthetics.
Kraljić always approaches design from a unique perspective, and Nucleus’s proportions and shape were precisely calibrated from the ground up, not as a stylistic feature, but to provide an excellent foundation for harmonic energy balance, ensuring that no frequency stands out and that the music is presented as a seamless blend of harmonic and multiple frequencies.
But it does not end there. Kraljić also approached the crossover and internal wiring with his decades-proven method of equal music energy distribution, removing blockages and providing equilibrium. This creates fluid pathways and, crucially, the domain for the music to unfold fully.

There is something intrinsically natural about the way these speakers reproduce music, allowing dynamic impact to be fully realized without compromising low, mid, or high frequencies and avoiding one of the persistent issues with many speakers: dynamic rigidity, which can cause unnaturally sharp attacks from metallic percussion, congesttion and blurrines of vocals, piano, guitar, and even the deepest notes of organ or taiko drums, failing to deliver a realistic and engaging sound.
The Colibri 33 Labs Nucleus’s inherent qualities unfold music in the listening space with an unusual level of acoustic density, revealing and anchoring the upper level of acoustic detail. This leaves the listener in awe of how unrestrained and harmonically, as well as acoustically, pure the presentation is. This is especially evident in live acoustic recordings, where the tails of reverb, decay, and delay are not cut off prematurely but are allowed to ring out naturally, without altering the timbre, tone, or color.

In high-end audio, despite all the technical measurements – which Colibri 33 Labs speakers, of course, undergo – there is no substitute for the voicing and listening process. Nucleus sonic orientation completes this with an enticing aural magic of interactivity. This is exactly what more audiophiles and music lovers are seeking in today’s fast-paced world: genuineness and soulfulness, an antidote to the ever-expanding blandness.
This is where Colibri 33 Labs speakers stand out, demonstrating that true technical mastery must always be complemented by refined tuning and, at times, intuition for the musical result.

Kraljić’s laser focus is always directed toward realizing the full potential in everything he does, and with Nucleus, he delves into the soul of the recording without altering spatial perception or spectral balance; the music is reproduced faithfully and with the necessary capacity.
And this is perhaps the most striking about the Nucleus: its ability to harmonize with music without forcing itself forward or demanding attention, while always maintaining balance, harmonic density, and dynamic potency.
I wholeheartedly award Colibri 33 Labs the 2026 Upper Echelon Product Award for its significant achievement with Nucleus speakers.
