In the frequently used notion that “there is nothing new to report,” the brand-new Diapason Didascalìa conveys a distinctive sense of gravitas, proving this is not the case.
Didascalìa, the latest addition to the Diapason Reference Collection, is the culmination of one of the most important and influential Italian creative partnerships, bringing together Alessandro Schiavi and Paolo Tezzon in a unique loudspeaker that showcases Italian craftsmanship in every curve and conveys Italian passion in every note.
Saying I was impressed with the new Reference Series loudspeakers would be an understatement. As you will read throughout this article, I was genuinely surprised and deeply moved by what the Didascalìa represents on many levels.
DIDASCALÌA
The Didascalìa reflects a refined aesthetic sensibility, with aluminum and wood serving far more than a decorative role. This proud new creation from Diapason surpasses expectations on many levels, grounded in the brand’s scrupulous authenticity and dedication to musical truth.
This distinguished creation by Tezzon & Schiavi arises from layered complexity and a restrained selection of materials, components, and, above all, the loudspeaker’s voicing.
As a new member of the Reference Series portfolio, Didascalìa offers far more breadth and substance than one might expect, particularly in the lower registers. This is no coincidence: designer Paolo Tezzon, a passionate bass player and avid concertgoer, has distinctly infused that acuity into Didascalìa’s performance. The result is an articulate, deeply grounded lower region and complete spectral equilibrium that at every moment conveys both weight and refinement.
What makes the Didascalìa distinctive is its ability to bridge tradition and modern finesse simultaneously. It redefines familiar sonic attributes through a masterful fusion of refined crossover design, proprietary drivers, and an innovative enclosure, achieving blistering speed and impact while preserving musical gravitas.
It balances velvety smoothness with lightning-fast dynamics while maintaining tonal integrity at all times. These highly regarded attributes firmly place the Didascalìa in the top tier of contemporary loudspeaker performance.
While remaining true to the Diapason ethos, Didascalìa does not merely present itself as a guardian of brand heritage; it sends a clear message that, while the intangible heritage is preserved, something genuinely exciting is happening with the brand.
IN HOUSE DESIGNED DRIVERS
The Didascalìa speaker drivers are an exclusive, in-house Diapason design, optimized for their specific application.
TWEETER
Designed by Diapason and manufactured by Scan-Speak, the 29 mm tweeter features a Kurt Müller silk soft-dome diaphragm, chosen for its naturally smooth, refined character. The diaphragm is hand-coated to extend its response into the highest frequencies, giving the tweeter impressive resolution without compromising its inherent musicality.
It is mounted on a Diapason-designed faceplate, precisely shaped to minimize diffraction and maintain controlled, even dispersion. A large neodymium magnet system and a non-resonant aluminum rear chamber complete the design.
MID-WOOFER
Designed by Diapason and manufactured by Scan-Speak, the 180 mm mid-woofer is an advanced design built around an air-dried, hand-coated paper/nylon fiber-pulp Kurt Müller cone. The same basic diaphragm technology has been used in several historically significant high-end studio monitors, valued for its transparency, natural tonality, and distinctive musical character.
At its heart is an Air Circ magnet system that uses six neodymium cylinders to deliver a powerful, highly symmetrical magnetic field while keeping compression exceptionally low. Copper rings in the magnet circuit further suppress nonlinear and modulation distortion while also improving the driver’s ability to handle demanding signal peaks.
MECHANICAL TIME ALIGNMENT
The eco-leather-covered baffle is carefully engineered to mechanically time-align the acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-woofer, ensuring correct integration at a listening distance of about two meters, which is also the typical placement in a properly proportioned listening room.
The result is excellent phase coherence and a precisely controlled impulse response. In practice, this translates into one of Didascalìa’s most distinctive qualities: a remarkably stable, spacious, and precisely focused sound stage.
VIBRATION FREE DECOUPLING SYSTEM
Didascalìa’s spikes incorporate an elastomer-based suspension system, precisely calibrated for compliance to create a stable, vibration-free interface with the listening environment.
The design isolates the enclosure from the floor, minimizing acoustic feedback and preventing unwanted vibrations from spreading into the listening room.
CROSSOVER
The Didascalìa crossover network uses a balanced topology designed to deliver a quieter background and a more composed presentation. This configuration makes the network significantly less susceptible to radio-frequency interference while also providing better control over the feedback impedance – the impedance seen by the loudspeaker looking back toward the amplifier.
The circuit is entirely point-to-point hand-wired and built with carefully selected components, including Jantzen C-Coil inductors, Mundorf Supreme EVO Silver/Gold/Oil capacitors, and Mundorf M-Resist resistors.
The crossover point is set at 2,500 Hz. Housed in a separate, easily accessible sub-enclosure, the network is mechanically isolated from the cabinet and remains readily accessible for future upgrades.
With Diapason, the idea is simple: loudspeaker systems should be made to last.
ACTIVE DRONE DRIVE — ELECTRO-MAGNETIC BRAKE SYSTEM
The 220 x 260 mm side-mounted, racetrack-shaped drone units, designed by Diapason and manufactured by Scan-Speak, or passive radiators, address another important Didascalìa design challenge: preserving the inherent purity of a two-way system while overcoming its natural limitations in the lowest octaves.
They share the generously sized enclosure with the front-firing mid-woofer and are driven by the air pressure generated inside the cabinet. Their moving mass and compliance have been precisely matched to the mid-woofer’s custom T&S parameters, allowing Didascalìa to comfortably reach below 40 Hz – a notable achievement for this type of design.
Although passive, each radiator incorporates a magnetic circuit that acts as an electromechanical brake. A rear-mounted control provides three levels of diaphragm damping, allowing the low-frequency response to be tailored to the acoustic conditions of the listening room.
THE MUSIC
A true loudspeaker designer is more than a craftsman – more akin to a haute cuisine chef who shapes the final experience and defines the musical direction. Many brands have lost sight of this balance. A coherent voice is crucial, and in this design philosophy, less is truly more.
In every detail and note, the Didascalìa embodies this principle with conviction. Designers Paolo Tezzon and Alessandro Schiavi have achieved a seamless fusion of form and function, uniting aesthetic elegance with acoustic purpose.
Most importantly, the Didascalìa offers an authoritative, deeply grounded performance across all genres. Its sonic precision and ability to convey music’s raw character make it an essential presence in today’s high-end landscape, regardless of price.
It enables the listener to become an active, feeling participant in the listening experience, navigating an endless world of musical discovery with a unique awareness that must be experienced to be fully understood.
Ignoring this direction means losing the essence of music itself. Didascalìa stands apart from the vast world of uninvolving loudspeakers, reproducing music with remarkable speed, clarity, and tonal integrity.
These Italian floor-standing speakers offer a genuine encounter with musical material – an immediate, unusually deep dive into the layers of a composition, revealing detail, texture, and density with effortless fluidity.
CASIOPEA — SUPER FLIGHT
When the speaker is properly set up and tuned, something magnetically magical, expansive, and enticingly inviting emerges from this album. Along with its alluring music, it presents a compelling sonic kaleidoscope of diversity and aural balance that truly reveals what speakers are capable of.

Didascalìa immediately felt tailor-made for this music, seamlessly stepping out of the way and allowing the music to dictate the room’s energy while effortlessly following the groovy tempo and narrative.
I was particularly struck by how well the lower register was tuned and how unifying it interacted with the rest of the spectrum.
CASIOPEA demands mature, fully developed, properly tuned speakers to fully unfold, and the Diapason reference speakers truly shined, presenting this timeless fusion album with ease, authority, and, most importantly, complete engagement, without any trace of contrived effects.
LINTON KWESI JOHNSON — FORCES OF VICTORY
Jamaican-British dub poet, writer, and reggae artist Linton Kwesi Johnson became the second living poet, and the first Black poet, to have a collection published in the Penguin Modern Classics series, titled Selected Poems.

After moving to London as a teenager, he became a defining voice in British reggae and an influential figure in Black British cultural life.
Forces of Victory, a remarkably well-recorded and well-produced album with understated potency, standout clarity for its era, and a highly transparent, dynamically unconstrained sound, truly comes alive with Didascalìa.
The album calls for an above-ordinary front-end punch and attack; Diapason reference floorstanders shape the musical sphere to be not only intelligible, but also to have musical momentum embedded deep at its core.
There were countless moments while listening when my remarks repeatedly brought a big smile and fully embodied the “if you know, you know” sentiment, speaking volumes about their sheer power.
The zen-like frequency equilibrium is accompanied by enormous impact in the lower region, without disturbing the shape or natural decay or pushing vocal sibilance into a brittle quality, all with an unprecedented sense of focus and fluidity.
With everything in its place, and with a place of its own, the Forces of Victory narrative unfolds with feather-light ease, never breaking the musical flow or diminishing the fullness of its energy.
The Didascalìa delivers a triumph of high-end audio reproduction, making this new top-tier loudspeaker truly a category of its own that will be hard to match.
THE O’JAYS — SHIP AHOY
Exploring the musical depth of The O’Jays – Ship Ahoy further cemented and confirmed Didascalìa’s, dare I say, ruthless willingness to present what is there without apology.

These proudly Italian speakers remain faithful to the recording, never adding or subtracting, with the music placed firmly at the epicenter, the very crux of the experience.
Some speakers can maintain a central focus but fail, or completely fall apart, in the mid-side. Didascalìa drives the music seamlessly at forte, leaving the aural horizontal and vertical expanse free-form, without diminishing the impact where weight and congestion must occur.
I was equally surprised by the non-subtle punch and by the clarity and recreation of spatial density. “Ship Ahoy” strikes beautifully and enchantingly, delving deep into submarine depths; the string section flows, the drums arrive with above-ordinary weight and a clear foundation, creating remarkable three-dimensionality and vocal presence that stay with you, and, above all, the powerful message lingers long after the music stops.
I don’t think I can give a better compliment, no matter the price.
CONCLUSION
Looking at the entire Diapason collection, it is difficult to describe Didascalìa in a few words, as it was not conceived to fill a specific gap or to duplicate any existing speaker.
Didascalìa represents a new wave for this iconic Italian loudspeaker manufacturer.
As a clear antidote to mediocrity, Didascalìa offers a uniquely vivid sense of contrast and separation, in which an utterly objective musical sphere is the result of precise engineering, never losing focus.
The laser-sharp focus operates in absolute terms, delivering hyper-level density and an upper-echelon rendering of acoustic nodes and focal points, giving the listener full awareness of spatiality, whether the music was recorded in the studio or captured live.
The newly born physical architecture embodies both innovation and heritage, bridging past inspiration with forward-thinking execution. It follows Diapason’s iconic design language while introducing a new, flagship-grade sensory experience.
The elegant, sculptural form conveys a sense of completeness – unlike most contemporary two-way designs – featuring a precision-engineered, stress-resistant enclosure and an adjustable passive radiator that delivers ideal bass performance across varied listening environments.
This feature is not included for novelty’s sake, but is genuinely practical and functions immediately – a splendid achievement in itself, worthy of special mention.
Unlike many contemporary designs, Didascalìa does not pursue sonic spectacle or extravagance. Instead, it offers a highly refined and inherently musical experience – technically profound, emotionally involving, and instantly familiar – crafted from the ground up to provide a deeply human connection that engages both the mind and the heart of the listener.
These Italian floorstanders offer a genuinely musical experience – an immediate, deeply immersive dive into a composition’s layers, revealing detail, texture, and density with effortless fluidity.
As with the rest of Diapason’s speakers, achieving this level of refined simplicity – what may appear to be an effortless outcome – is in fact the result of a rigorous process and a laser-focused determination to find balance, a true currency of truth.
Knowing the creative minds behind the project and their cultural ambitions, the realization of Didascalìa comes as no surprise, but it stands as a defining moment and the clearest expression of a genuine ambition to create something meaningfully Italian – physically, aesthetically, and emotionally.
Didascalìa represents a paradigm shift, fundamentally redefining the modern speaker concept and converging at a point phenomenally close and intimate to where music truly lives – emotionally and energetically.
With design and voicing language deeply rooted in Diapason’s DNA, this Italian boutique manufacturer shows that it understands what its customers value most: longevity, emotional connection, and the electrifying purity of music itself.
As a study in sonic, material, and aesthetic balance, Didascalìa offers a distinctive artistic and deeply musical perspective. It places a cornerstone atop Diapason’s rich legacy – a testament to enduring Italian craftsmanship, sculptural beauty, and expressive power that will continue to inspire and captivate for years to come.
It was not created with the usual agenda so often seen today, pursuing the paradigm of how complex a speaker can be. Instead, Tezzon and Schiavi asked themselves, “How seamlessly can Didascalìa play music?”
And Diapason’s addition to the Reference portfolio is exactly that: a highly capable medium that never wanders off piste musically.
Such a sonic outcome is only possible after decades spent living with music, where emotional clarity takes precedence over analysis, and the connection becomes pure, instinctive, and truthful.
Ultimately, Didascalìa stands as a reflection of where the industry is today – and where it is headed: toward a seamless coexistence of tradition and innovation, equally vital and inspiring across generations, bridging the gap through its genuineness and thoroughly 21st-century approach.

For many music lovers and aficionados who share that ethos, Diapason represents the ideal choice.
For what these speakers represent – not only for Diapason, but for Italian loudspeaker design and the high-end industry as a whole – Didascalìa earns a truly well-deserved place among the Best of Mono & Stereo 2026 Editors’ Choice Awards.⧉
