Originally released in 1965 on Prestige / New Jazz “Latin Soul” was the quintets last album. Immediately withdrawn for sale due to a pressing error, original pressings of this album are exceedingly difficult to find and as a consequence have attained mythical status.
Soothing but rhythmically infectious, the album features driving original cult standards like Miles Davis’ “Milestones” plus the beautiful modal melodica classic “Rip A Dip”.
Led by American jazz percussionist, Juan Amalbert LJQ were a relatively short lived band who expertly mixed together bop with Afro-Cuban rhythms throughout the early 1960s.
Amalbert leading and playing conga, is joined by vibraphonist Willie Coleman, Bobby Capers on alto sax, Bill Ellington on bass, Artie Jenkins and Jose Ricci on piano and Phil Newsom on drums and timbales.
Cut directly from the original stereo analog master tapes in True Mono* (as per the original release), through our unique all valve 1965 Ortofon / Lyrec vinyl cutting system. No equalisation, compression or any other processing was added during the cutting process.
All sleeve artwork made by hand and authentically letter-pressed on a 1963 Heidelberg SB.
This edition of 300 copies is priced at £395.00 UK pounds. Order here.
*Where everything in the chain from the tape head, the tape pre-amplifier, the cutting amplifier and the dedicated mono cutter head is a single channel pathway: This early technology avoids phase issues (smearing of the sound) that is frequently encountered when cutting with todays dual” or “pseudo” mono cutting systems.
