An original Genesis 1.1 – with all original drivers, amplifier and cables. Still in pristine condition and sounding excellent driven by Audio Research Reference 210 Monoblock Amplifiers.
The speakers were installed in one of the most gorgeous homes I have ever seen. Designed after the philosophies of Frank Lloyd Wright, it perfectly exemplified organic architecture. Walking through the house, as a home it flowed with humanity; the spaces working together to feel natural and welcoming and integrated into the landscape and the environment. Large windows, organic materials and careful craftsmanship combined to make the house feel at one with the environment.
Exquisite – but understated.
It was the perfect time to visit as the house is on a ridge in an Aspen forest. The Fall colours were spectacular on the road leading up to the house – situated in one of the most environmentally designed communities in Colorado.
Built into the South-facing slope of the mountain-side, the balcony features views of the Vail ski slopes. Wide windows take advantage of the Winter sun while the hillside shelters the home from cold Northerly winds.
The owner is not an audiophile – he is a music lover with a great aesthetic. Hence, the room was neat, tidy, welcoming, elegant and unpretentious. There was no need to show off anything, and all components were functional and the best sounding available. Analogue source is a VPI turntable with Audio Research phono, while the PSAudio DirectStream DAC does digital duties with a MacMini as as streamer.
Even the drive to the home is one of the great scenic drives in the mountain. I was stopped and stunned by the fabulous vistas many times on the way up. Starting at over 6,600 ft at the nearest town, it was a 10 minute 3,000 ft climb with gorgeous photo-ops like this one.
The best thing about visiting customer is the discovery of new music. This is a fantastic album that the owner of this pair of speakers introduced to me – it was already on the turntable when I arrived, and when he played it, I HAD to have it. Before I had even returned to my hotel, I already got an email from him – he had already bought a copy for me and it was on the way to my office.
What a kind and thoughtful thing it was to do. Thank you so very much Mr G1 owner.
I had brought along an album as a gift for my host, and we played a couple of tracks. After a bit, I asked if I could make some adjustments to the system.
All it took was a few adjustments to the bass gain, low-pass frequency and phase, and my host told me that it sounded like he received a brand new loudspeaker that was far improved.
One of the great joys of my job – another G1 owner left happy
