German Physiks DDD Carbon Fibre Driver

This is a close up of German Physiks carbon fibre DDD driver. The DDD driver is used on all German Physiks loudspeakers from our entry level HRS-130, through to flagship Gaudi.

It is an omnidirectional driver with an exceptionally wide frequency range – typically 200Hz to 24kHz. On one model, the Unicorn Mk II, a single DDD driver is operated from 40Hz to 24kHz.

The DDD driver is also phase linear, meaning that it preserves the phase relationships of the frequencies in its operating range. This is important for both tonal accuracy and the transient response. This is achieved by careful selection of the diaphragm’s shape and dimensions and the mechanical properties of the material used. This is explained in German Physiks Newsletter #37: https://bit.ly/3WRXDkr

Its moving mass is less than 3 grams. This is much less than an equivalent conventional driver, therefore the reaction forces it creates are much smaller. Consequently, it puts less energy into the cabinet. This reduces cabinet resonances, thereby improving transparency.
