German Physiks: “This set of German Physiks PQS-402 loudspeakers is shown in our listening room being given a final run before being packed and shipped to a customer in China. They are finished in high-polish French walnut veneer. This is a very popular finish with customers in the Far East.

Each PQS-402 weighs 165 kg (363lbs). Fortunately, it breaks down into 5 major components. This makes shipping and re-assembly very much easier than if the loudspeaker was made in one piece.
The two German Physiks DDD drivers on the front of each loudspeaker cover the range from 215Hz to 24kHz. This exceptionally wide frequency range avoids the need for the crossover point in the mid-range that conventional loudspeakers have, thereby eliminating any discontinuities that this might cause. This is important because human hearing is most acute in the mid-range. The DDD driver is phase linear across its operating range. This gives an excellent transient response and exceptional tonal accuracy. The absence of a conventional cabinet minimises resonances and the degradation of sound quality that these might otherwise cause.
The bass system uses two 10-inch woofers and four 8-inch passive radiators to take the response down to 24Hz. The maximum output level is 118dB. This, allows the PQS-402 to produce convincingly live-music like dynamics. On the floor behind the loudspeakers is a pair of German Physiks Emperor mono power amplifiers. Each one is capable of delivering 1,100W into 4 ohms.
These PQS-402s are fitted with the standard passive crossover. An active version of the PQS-402 is available, which is supplied with our Emperor DSP-X digital crossover.”
