With Analog Retrospective, acclaimed blues artist Hans Theessink looks back on an extraordinary musical career while adding another landmark release to the Original Analog Master Edition series from in-akustik. This strictly limited and individually numbered 180g audiophile vinyl edition is restricted to just 1,500 copies worldwide, with 300 copies personally hand-signed by Hans Theessink.
Following decades of international touring and countless studio recordings, Hans Theessink has built an exceptional archive of analog recordings. For this retrospective, the Vienna-based blues master has personally selected nine of his favorite tracks—songs that perfectly capture his unmistakable style, his extraordinary voice, and his distinctive musical identity.
Throughout the album, Theessink’s rich, unmistakable baritone unfolds with remarkable naturalness. Remaining true to his long-standing philosophy, he deliberately avoids digital processing, relying instead on a pure, direct, and authentic sound. On seven of the nine tracks, he is joined by his longtime musical companion Terry Evans, whose soulful voice adds warmth, depth, and emotional richness to the recordings. Renowned guest musicians including Ry Cooder and Jon Sass further enrich the sonic palette, contributing everything from expressive slide guitar to unexpectedly grooving tuba performances.
From a production standpoint, this release sets new benchmarks for analog vinyl mastering. For the Original Analog Master Edition, the original analog master tapes were meticulously remastered entirely in the analog domain by mastering engineer Christoph Stickel before being transferred back to analog tape. The subsequent Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) process ensures exceptional precision during lacquer cutting, allowing the recordings’ remarkable dynamics, transparency, transient response, and fine detail to be reproduced with outstanding accuracy.
The result is an immersive listening experience that captures Hans Theessink’s voice and every instrument with exceptional presence, realism, and musicality – making Analog Retrospective an essential addition for blues enthusiasts and discerning audiophile vinyl collectors alike.
