Lamar Audio Engineering TAD 2001 Driver Beryllium Replacement

Lamar Audio Engineering writes: “The TAD 2001 is undoubtedly one of the most popular compression drivers ever build. The beryllium diaphragm ensures rapid sound wave transmission, extremely flat frequency response, excellent transient response, and high sound image definition. Unfortunately, this diaphragm is very brittle and when broken a replacement is hard to find.”

“We now started the quest to find a solution to replace the original beryllium diaphragm with our high modulus carbon composite prepreg without sacrificing any quality of sound. We are very satisfied with the result. Distortion and impulse response are on the same level as the original. The frequency response on a small horn is nice and even up to 15K Hz. Our high modulus carbon diaphragm has the reputation of delivering a very natural yet fast and dynamic sound that blends in perfectly to the low-frequency woofer.”
