M2TECH MITCHELL ANALOG ELECTRONIC CROSSOVER

M2Tech is proud to introduce the (4200€ + VAT) Mitchell Analog Electronic Crossover. “The Mitchell represents the peak of analog technology applied to active frequency dividing networks. Its versatility and complete filters provision largely exceed those of any other analog electronic crossover so far, approaching those of the digital crossovers, without the latters’ drawbacks.”

So many things in such a little space!

The Mitchell is a 3-way stereo or 6-way mono electronic crossover which does it all in analog domain. No A-to-D and D-to-A conversions are performed. This is overly important when an all-analog hifi system goes multiamplified.

Incredible versatility: each way can be independently configured to be low-pass, high-pass or band-pass. An all-pass module in each filter allows for accurate phase alignment at crossover frequency. Notch filters are available for drivers’ breakup attenuation. Level matching is easily accomplished by independent level control.

Each way is provided with a filter module. Filter modules can be cascaded to trade the filter complexity with available ways. The Mitchell can be set in mono to get up to 6 ways for complex speakers systems. Both single-ended and balanced inputs and outputs available.

Easy to use, do whatever you want…

The Mitchell is an analog device in which software-controlled integrated potentiometers and switches allow for configuration of the signal path, as well as the cutoff frequencies and damping factors.

Configuration is done using a PC thanks to a USB connection. The PC sees the Mitchell as a serial device (UART), therefore a simple terminal program can be used to send configuration commands following the simple programming language developed by M2Tech. The configuration is stored in a non-volatile memory and it’s applied at each power-up, therefore there’s no need to keep the Mitchell connected to the PC all the time.

To make the configuration process even easier, M2Tech provides a free app for Windows wihch allows to choose the right filter setup for each module and send frequency and damping information. Moreover, the app helps the user to automatically design filters according to standard models: Butterworth, Chebishev, Bessel. Filters frequency responses can be displayed in a graph. The app allows for storing configurations in files, upload/download configurations to/from the Mitchell and setting various features, like the selected input. Changes to the configuration can be heard in real-time.

Hi-end performance at an affordable price.

The Mitchell sports incredibly high performance at the cost of a mid-end power amplifier. 100-to-110dBA SNR @ 1Vrms out (depending on the chosen configuration) and 0.05% THD tell a lot about its utter background silence and resolution capability: the Mitchell will pass the sonic signature of your preamplifier untouched to each power amplifier. No sonic artifacts due to double digital conversion as often happens with digital crossovers.

As it operates in analog domain, there’s no problem with any digital format handled by your DAC, unlike digital crossovers that, when driven in digital domain to avoid at least one conversion, are often limited in sampling frequency and can’t process DSD in native form.

The incredible versatility of each filter module allows you to carefully tailor the frequency response of the filter to that theoretically needed by the driver, for a smooth and consistent loudspeaker overall frequency response.
