Peter Noerbaek of PBN Audio writes: “Well after about 18 months of work I’m about satisfied with the new line preamp. It is about done – there’s one little additional feature I will implement, selectable gain by the end-user.”
“Historically a 20dB gain in a line amp is the correct amount – the digital “insert explicit noun” suppliers are going for 4, 5, or 8 Vrms output to claim larger SN ratio which is in the reality of no real benefit to sound quality.
In a system that does both analog and digital playback the line amp gain is needed in digital, it is not.”
