This knife edge bearing tonearm, is a complete new development and is a huge upgrade to the existing TP92 tonearm. Both versions, one with the TP92 and the new with the TP160 tonearm will remain parallel in our assortment.
Inspired by studio tonearm technology, this classic J-shaped 9-inch tonearm TP 160 is crafted from precision aluminum tubing and features a SME headshell connection, guided by a high-quality cutting bearing. A magnetic guidance system prevents any tendency to break away.
The TP 160 is the first arm in Thorens’ history to feature a cutting bearing. The anti-skating is adjusted in a classic manner using a spring. The arm’s height can be adjusted (VTA), and the azimuth is adjustable as well. The scaled, two-part counterweight facilitates precise adjustment of the required tracking force and ensures that even heavy cartridges with a weight of up to 30g can be precisely balanced. The motorized lift and end shutoff of the TD 1601 are also available with the new TP 160.
