Opera Loudspeakers has completely redesigned their flagship Callas line for 2014, with the Callas and Grand Callas now featuring new drivers, dramatic new styling and a more flexible design that is easily adaptable to most home environments.
The Grand Callas ($11,995/pair) is a three-way floorstanding speaker with two 8” long-throw woofers, a 7” annealed polypropylene midrange driver and the exciting new 9700 tweeter from Scanspeak. A rear radiator system features two rear-firing tweeters that act as a natural dipole. The frequency response for the Grand Callas is 32Hz-25kHz and the sensitivity is 89dB with a 4 ohm impedance.
The Callas monitor ($5495/pair) is a two-way stand mounted loudspeaker that uses the same tweeter and 7” annealed polypropylene driver. Frequency response is 40Hz-25kHz with same sensitivity and impedance as the Grand Callas. Both models come in two gloss finishes—mahogany and walnut—and feature Opera’s trademark leather-wrapped front baffle. A new touch, however, is the glass top plate that is angled to give the entire speaker a dramatic, enticing appearance.
Both the Opera Callas and Grand Callas will receive their US debut at the New York Audio Show this month in the Tenace Home Music Systems room (#3009). You can also see them in the Colleen Cardas Imports rooms at next month’s Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and in the Unison Research/Opera room at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January.
