Rare Furtwaengler recorded Beethoven Symphony No.3 ‘Eroica vinyl

“Furtwaengler recorded Beethoven Symphony No.3 ‘Eroica’ for RRG broadcast (Magnetofon Concert) on 19 and 20 December 1944. The recorded tape of the ‘Eroica’ was bought from a broadcasting station in East Germany with other RRG tapes by the American Urania Co, after the war. This issue was briefly available for sale in circa 1953 before being deleted from the catalogue following legal pressure from Mrs. Elisabeth Furtwaengler. The record company claimed to have legally acquired the master tapes from East Germany, where they had been transported following their seizure by occupation forces. The supreme court case remained unresolved at the Furtwaengler death in November, 1954.
