The A 3100 HV: Burying the Power Supply. T + A is fully aware that a 1000-Watt toroidal transformer generates a massive, signal-destroying magnetic field. So, it didn’t just install it inside the A 3100 HV. It is entombed.

Resting in the shielded lower level of the chassis, the transformer is hermetically sealed and entirely encapsulated in a magnetic shield. It acts as a silent, high-performance reactor. Its violent stray fields are choked out before they can ever cross the 10-millimeter solid aluminium horizon separating the power from your audio signal.
But massive wattage is entirely meaningless if it is slow.

To ensure the amplifier never has to “catch its breath” before a massive transient strike, we ignored standard power storage. Instead, we wired a phalanx of twelve oversized, ultra-low ESR capacitors in a precise parallel configuration. This specific geometry mathematically decimates internal resistance. When a massive orchestral crescendo demands immediate energy, the amplifier doesn’t hesitate. It just hits.

And because this is T+A, it didn’t stop there. For those who view a perfectly isolated 1000-Watt internal power supply as merely a “good start,” German manufacturer included the ability to add an external reference power supply. This hands all the heavy lifting over to an external grid, allowing the internal reactor to dedicate its stoic calm entirely to the delicate voltage stages.
