On March 1, 2025, Thales introduced their new turntable to the public in Hong Kong at an exclusive event at the Divin Lab of Audio Exotics. The Thales Reference implements a mechanical centrifugal governor, which enables driving and braking torque for a turntable drive to achieve self-regulatory balance.
The rotation speed of the platter remains absolutely stable without any corrective action – an impossible feat with any electronic controller. The result is unprecedentedly precise timing in analogue playback.
