Vanity Sound – Music Comes First

The guiding principle at Vanity Sound is simple: music comes first. Easy to say, far harder to achieve. Music should transcend any individual choice or level of care applied to one’s system. No single component is more important than another; what truly matters is creating the right synergy, allowing the music to lead us toward the joy of listening. This holistic, system-centred approach led me to examine interconnect cables with a highly critical and meticulous eye.

People are moved to tears when they hear a piece performed in a theatre or a jazz club; achieving even a fraction of that emotional intensity in a high-end listening room is extraordinary. Creating something that can touch you so profoundly is a unique and exhilarating feeling-and witnessing that emotion reflected in others, through the work of your own hands and your own ingenuity, is even more fulfilling.

Exploring every musical form-jazz, classical, symphonic, early music-and immersing ourselves daily in this beauty has made us realise there is an entire world to discover, onethat must be explored and absorbed. To experience this magnificence fully, one needs an ever-better system. As our tastes evolve, so too do the demands we place on our equipment. In developing our products, we cultivated a deep commitment to pursuing our ideas, which naturally led us toward designing and creatinguncompromising cables for reference-level audio systems. We believe that to achieve complete satisfaction in musical listening, our focus must extend far beyond electronics, loudspeakers, or cables. It must begin—with absolute conviction-with love for the music itself, allowing it to guide us toward that unique and unforgettable experience that only live performance can offer.

A CASE HISTORY AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY…

Here I am once again at my beloved keyboard, gathering thoughts, impressions, and intuitions as l prepare for another introspective journey in search of answers and, why not, meaningful confirmations. As a perfect finale after spending the last few days travelling through some of Italy’s most beautiful regions, welcomed by passionate and exquisitely refined enthusiasts of domestic high-end audio, I find myself carrying home a wealth of shared personal experiences-and a renewed awareness of how deeply I love everything this extraordinary “hobby” can offer to our lives. Every now and then, in the realm of life experiences and the trials that curiosity and our overwhelming hunger for knowledge place before us, we are called to confront well-rooted convictions and perspectives that live within our conscience-sources of growth and foundations for the experiences yet to come. Why this preamble before entering the heart of my new adventure? The reason is both very simple to grasp through direct experience and incredibly difficult to put into words.

SUBJECTIVITY AS A PRINCIPLE

I refer modestly to the idea that subjectivity may indeed serve as a principle-if, both theoretically and existentially, it “works” better. If it provides a more direct and convincing path than any other starting point. Subjectivity becomes a principle not in the sense of being a firm experiential foundation (by definition, it has subjective character and value), but as a point of departure, from whose clarification and unfolding many further discoveries and emotional revelations depend.

This is precisely why my experience inside these remarkable Hi-End listening rooms becomes so important and exciting: they serve as a fundamental springboard from which to interpret the connections and interferences that this subjective starting point creates, and how these relate to the sonic signature of our precious “links”-our cables.

Returning to the listening sessions and the series of tests performed by gradually introducing our products, we found ourselves on a path that was consistently linear, always converging toward what our perception recognises as balance and harmony.
With every step, every incremental insertion of our components into these extraordinary systems, we moved closer to that sense of neutrality and musicality that we enthusiasts pursue so stubbornly.

Although this parameter cannot be defined by measurements or instruments, I firmly believe it is one of the essential elements of any high-level audio system. One might naively think that such a pursuit of neutrality could conflict with transparency, definition, dynamics, or articulation.

Instead-and with a certain pride, and at times genuine emotion-I must say that the “subjective value” in this case was unanimous and irrefutable.

What manifested before our eyes and, more importantly, to our “precious ears,” was akin to a beautiful, immobile painting suddenly taking on movement, vitality, harmonious energy, and an irresistible sense of musical bliss. What had previously been an admirable yet static musical representation gradually transformed into a real event-magically repeatable for our pleasure and personal fulfilment. – Corrado Trombatore | Vanity Sound
