The only known photograph of the ground floor workshops at the Ashford Road factory, circa 1934. Circular horns, intended for use in the Compton ‘Melotone’ system can be seen stacked and awaiting finishing, alongside fabricated flares for the Vitavox ‘Monitor Type’ exponential.
The stay at Ashford Road was relatively short. In 1937, continued growth prompted a move to a very much larger premises at Westmoreland Road, which would remain home for a further half a century.
Oh, and to this day Vitavox Hi-Fi still insist that plus fours are worn in its machine shop…
