One of the guilty pleasures of my job is the discovery of the new music and great music. Well, I know Mascara Quartet for quite some time and have heard them performing live few times, but this release is special as its is their first debut on the vinyl and the band wanted from the ground to keep everything in analog domain.
There was no overdubbing, all the songs were recorded in one take via SSL analog mixing board and even the vocal vas captured throug the analog reverb.
And the result? Music drags you in the emotional world of Fado without ever having a feeling, that curtains were still drawn. The Black Boat swiftly takes you on the vibrant journey of that encompass and encapsulates stories with just the right dosage of poignancy to stay on the safe side of melancholy…
