Burwell & Sons will proudly demonstrate their ‘Mother of Burl’ loudspeakers (US MSRP $80,000/pair) at Axpona, the Audio Expo North America, in Room 518 of The Westin O’Hare, April 21-23, 2017.
‘Mother of Burl’ is one model in Burwell’s Homage Series (another model of which is pictured above) of vintage-inspired, high-efficiency speakers. All Homage Series systems utilize optimized vintage Altec or JBL drivers in craftsman-built, mid-century-modern-styled cabinets, with horns hand-made of solid wood. ‘Mother of Burl’ features walnut burl veneer and horns constructed from black walnut, and is a 3-way system utilizing the Altec 803 woofer and 802 compression driver, topped with the legendary JBL 075 ring radiator.
The Burwells are pleased to share their room with the fine folks from Rogers High Fidelity, VPI, Ortofon, Snake River Audio, and Audio Vault USA. Analog source will be a Dual Tonearm VPI HW Classic turntable with Ortofon moving-coil cartridges, feeding a Rogers High Fidelity PA-1A phono preamp and a Rogers EHF-100 integrated amp. All interconnects, cables, and cords are from Snake River Audio, and the rack is from Audio Vault USA. Digital source will be a Mytek Brooklyn DAC, using J River.
With the exception of the fine Ortofon phono cartridges from Denmark, all products are proudly handmade in the US to the highest standards of construction and performance.
Gordon Burwell Sr.will be accompanied in the room by Rob Pleyer from Rogers High Fidelity; the duo may be joined by Roger Gibboni from Rogers, Mat Weisfeld from VPI, Jonny Wilson from Snake River Audio, and James Wall and Dave Vincent from Audio Vault USA.
