The original output capacitor design was based on simplicity and low cost, and although it was capable of great things, it couldn’t compete with those offering higher rated power. The turning point came in the 1990s, when (now) traditional DC-coupled amplifiers became widely accepted—and cheaper to manufacture.
Virtually everyone stopped manufacturing output-capacitor amplifiers because they became more expensive to produce, had lower nominal power output, and required more specialized technical knowledge to build. That’s a shame, because with all their faults, these amplifiers already possessed outstanding sonic potential, like rough diamonds that needed a thorough polishing.
We chose our own path and started to refine, modify and improve this topology.
