Lowther Almira Speakers

Designed to present equally as well in smaller rooms as they do in bigger spaces, the (£12,000.00 GBP) Lowther Almira preserves the clarity and scale of larger Lowther speaker cabinets but with a much smaller footprint. Using the DX3 the Almira is based on the quarter-wave Voigt horn with a floor facing exit. All are handmade in Great Britain to a limited issue and sold in numbered pairs.

The Almira is a 2.3m single folded quarter-wave generic Voigt horn with a floor facing exit.

All are handmade to a limited issue in numbered pairs.  Choose from a selection of matched veneer sets including a very limited edition Rosewood as pictured above.

The Almira can be specified with or without top cover grilles and they call come with levelling screw feet which are removable for carpet standing.

The Almira’s are designed with Lowther’s DX3 drive units and present well in a wide range of room sizes and positions. They are notably comparable in efficiency and scale of soundstage with larger heritage cabinets, like the TP2.

The Almiras are a slight departure from our heritage design with the addition of a handmade super tweeter, together with an Almira specific phase compensation board. In common with all other Lowther cabinets the Almiras need no crossovers and are designed with Voigt’s original principles in mind.

The Voigt flared pipe

Results in a natural, clean, low extension to the bass with a well tempered ‘baffle compensation’ lift which works well with the DX3 drive unit. A narrow front elevation & faceted top minimise baffle/edge refraction, also presenting an elegant profile.

The Super Tweeter

A departure from Lowther tradition is to use a super-tweeter. Specific to this application, this is a simple 20mm dome with a small loading cavity in front of the straight taper horn to match the overall efficiency of the speaker. We hand make the horn with the same construction & materials as the cone & whizzer in the 8 inch units, then build them into sealed chambers incorporated within the cabinet.

No Crossover

No crossover is employed to the DX3; the super-tweeter takes up where the main unit naturally drops off. It is protected & set 1st order from about 8k with a high quality capacitor.

Modified DX3

The DX3 comes with a slight modification to surface treatment & back-centre. This plays full-range as originally designed, with the phase correction board employed to tilt the frequency response & match the baffle compensation/bass efficiency to the overall cabinet design.

Designed to perform in most room sizes

Designed to present equally as well in smaller rooms as they do in bigger spaces, the Almira preserves the clarity and scale of larger Lowther speaker cabinets but with a much smaller footprint.
