THE EFFECT OF PLASTIC WOUND CAPACITOR

“A little recreation of an old Steen Duelund observational study, he conducted in a larger scale (for an individual). Duelund had noticed a tendency for capacitors to ever so slightly lose capacitance when removing the plastic surround. He eventually asked Jensen Capacitors about it, who confirmed they had noticed similar tendencies. This initial observation was part of the motivation for Duelund to seek out alternatives to plastic wound capacitors. For fun, I include measurements of 3 Jensen OPA capacitor with and without their original plastic wrapper. As can be seen, there is a slight decrease in value, when the wrapper is removed on all 3. If nothing else, it is a fun (non conclusive) observation, that makes you think. And in the world today, it’s probably a good idea to minimize plastic anyway – potentially better capacitors and sound is just a bonus. ;).”
