New AudioSolutions Virtuoso speakers

AudioSolutions writes: “We are very proud to present our last speaker series in AudioSolutions family which finalizes our portfolio – Virtuoso. Virtuoso series speaker is located between Figaro series and Vantage 5th anniversary speaker series. It is a missing link between these two very successful series. Virtuoso takes most technology advantages from our Flagship – Vantage 5th anniversary, meanwhile design-wise Virtuoso shares sweet middle reminiscing Figaro sophisticated looks but at the same time having sharp prestigious character from Vantage 5th anniversary model.”

Virtuoso – 3way system with two 7.5” bass drivers and 6.5” mid driver. 1.2” tweeter.

  • Virtuoso is offered with 7 different standard finishes which includes a greyish colors which easily integrates in environment.
  • 5 saturated colors with mind blowing Metallic effect and one never seen Flame Chameleon color which changes from cold grey to all temperatures of flame/spark (from cold blue up to warm red).
Virtuoso is equipped with Mini-horn which is already a standard at AudioSolutions. Mini-horn was introduced along with Overture series speakers to fight unwanted soft dome resonance problem (at lower frequencies due to usual soft suspension). These distortions said to be like harsh sound when driven heavy. To fight that AudioSolutions introduced Mini-Horn which raises tweeter sensitivity (thus lowering THD after normalization) at the most distorted area and at the same time loading driver diaphragm with additional dampening. System proved to be very effective and now is being used in every new speaker series AudioSolutions introduces.
A very wide-range is covered by single driver unit. AudioSolutions is known for using mid drivers to cover wider than usual band and for very simple reason. Evolution of human made our ears most sensitive in region 800-2000Hz because simply here lies most sound information radiated from our predators (note that ear’s sensitivity axial diagram points forward and down as most sensitive). Even if ideal mathematical model of crossover is introduced in this area phase distortion and THD rises in crossover region not to mention that we can detect different point sources when sound is emitted from two different drivers at the same time in crossover region. Some uses extreme low crossover points to avoid this area extremely loading tweeters as a result which in return also raises THD. We chose to use band-enhanced mid drivers to make crossover points as distant as possible, we do sacrifice a little bit of dispersion but this is nothing compared to benefits. Virtuoso midrange driver covers 500-7000Hz.
Adjustable crossover where introduced in Vantage Classic speakers. However in Virtuoso we thought – let’s step one more step ahead. While adjustable level in Vantage really solves a lot of room problems by fine tuning speaker to your gear and room itself, we thought it would be next step forward to introduce three different crossovers in one speaker.
So now Virtuoso is the very first speaker which has Three Crossover Profiles:

A very sweet middle. A profile with soundstage and clarity everyone could expect from this class speaker.

Should be used for prolonged listening sessions and usually if driven pretty hard, it is beneficial to choose Softened mode for harsher recordings like metal or rock. We observed that most people would love to listen their older rock records but due to all electronics evolution (faster and more transient amps, speaker that can play up to 60kHz, super cables etc.) high end gear usually shows all imperfections of those older recordings and simply put rock starts to sound screamy and noisy. That’s where Softened mode comes in to place. It is not EQ thing don’t get me wrong it’s a technique closer to recording studios where you manipulate distortions and very sharp nulls in the band.

This mode should be used to experience smallest details in the recording or if listener prefers analytical listening sessions, also Enhanced mode is good for quiet evening listening sessions when ambient noise floor masks a lot of micro elements in music. It can be used for the enhanced experience of recording where that small “extra” puts tear in your eyes. Another use we found it very useful – simply for testing other signal path equipment where raised sensitivity to details helps to answer question – “does this new cable/cd player/DAC really makes a difference in my system?”

Virtuoso combines Figaro enclosure self-locking technique with Vantage double box technique and takes it a bit further. We call it Box in a Box system. You might hear us say similar words before and that is true because Figaro is box in a box system and the idea came from Figaro we just maximized its efficiency to the perfection. Virtuoso has internal fully sealed cabinet with heavy internal bracing and all dampening techniques all modern High-End speakers have. However this inner box is not visible from outside because it is covered with another outer box which is glued tight to the inner box. Why you say? To make things simple let’s take casual square box which has corner joints. These joints are weakest area and acts more like a hinge than a tight joint. To prevent it from flexing another layer must be glued on top of the joint forming brick pattern. Resulting stiffness is at least 10 times bigger. Virtuoso just like award-winning Figaro has a very massive enclosure but the resulting stiffness is twice the mass if used standard cabinet techniques used by others.
